Age Scotland Pharmacy Campaign

Lockdown has had a profound impact on society as we know it. Isolation amid Covid has forced us to distance ourselves from family, friends, colleagues, community and adapt to a new way of being – alien to our innate need to be social. A growing problem of loneliness is affecting communities across the UK, but it’s the older generation who are suffering more than ever before.

Chronic loneliness is as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day – it raises the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, depression and dementia. Age Scotland understands how critical a friendly conversation can be and is running a branded pharmacy bag campaign in pharmacies across Scotland to promote the fact that Age Scotland has a free friendship line that people in need can call for support.

With pharmacies across the UK an essential service, with frontline staff providing critical support to the community with prescription medication and health advice, pharmacy bags are the ideal format to deliver a sensitive and important message of friendship and support to older people during these trying times.

Age Scotland’s friendship line 0800 12 44 222 is free to call and available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
